About Me
My name is Rushdan, and I am commonly known by my students as Sir Dan or Sir Rushdan. I am an English tutor with approximately 7 months of combined teaching experience, including practicum and hands-on tutoring across both primary and secondary levels. I specialise in helping students build strong and confident English foundations while also supporting their academic performance. My teaching covers all core language skills, including grammar, writing, speaking, reading, and listening, with a strong emphasis on clarity, understanding, and practical application. My teaching approach is highly adaptive, especially for weaker students. I simplify complex concepts into clear, easy-to-understand explanations and adjust my methods according to each student’s level. I also make lessons more engaging through interactive, game-like activities and the use of modern technology to enhance learning. Whenever possible, I relate lessons to real-life situations so students can better understand how English is used in everyday contexts. During my teaching experience, I have successfully improved the overall performance of a class, reflected in their mid-year examination results compared to previous assessments. I have also been recognised by my teaching supervisor for my patience, strong classroom management, and ability to help students grasp difficult concepts effectively. In particular, I take pride in helping lower-proficiency students become more confident and capable in reading and understanding English.
Teaching Method(s)
I use a variety of engaging and interactive techniques to make learning English more enjoyable and effective. These include digital quizzes such as Kahoot and Quizizz, paper-based quizzes, roleplaying and acting activities, group work, storytelling for creative writing, as well as structured worksheets to reinforce learning. To ensure students truly understand the lesson, I break down complex ideas into smaller, simpler steps and explain them in a way that matches their level of understanding. I often rephrase and repeat key concepts using different approaches until students are able to understand them clearly. I also use guided questioning throughout the lesson to check understanding in real time and adjust my teaching when necessary. When needed, I provide additional examples and relate lessons to real-life situations to help students make stronger connections with the content. To help students improve their performance, I focus on strengthening foundational understanding before moving into application. I guide students in recognising question patterns and understanding what is being asked in assessments. For weaker students, I place strong emphasis on building confidence, especially in reading and comprehension, so they are able to approach tasks without fear or confusion. Learning is reinforced through consistent practice using worksheets, quizzes, and interactive exercises to improve accuracy and retention over time.
